Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a private chef?
I am your personal and private chef. When the day arrives, I’ve planned the meals, based on our initial consultation. While you go to work I am off to the grocery store. Then I go to your house to cook, package, clean up and leave. On the following day I may be doing the same for yet another client. I hope that feels both personal and private to each of my clients.

How is this different from catering?
A caterer plans and cooks food for special occasions. The food is often prepared in a commercial kitchen and delivered to the event. My service addresses needs on a more regular basis and I prepare several meals on the same day. All preparation occurs in YOUR kitchen.

Can the food be prepared somewhere else?
Currently, the Health Department regulations prohibit food preparation and transportation from a non-commercial kitchen. Time For Dinner does not presently own or have the use of such a kitchen. Preparation of food in a client’s kitchen is approved by the State and the Health Dept.

How will my meals be packaged?
I use a combination of Pyrex, Gladware, Reynoldsware, vacuum sealed bags, disposable aluminum pans and possibly your own dishes. I can package your food in single servings, family style or anything in between. Together we will decide what works best for you.

What if I have a special diet that I must follow?
I will make your meals align with your diet. I am not a dietitian but given enough information I can satisfy your health needs and your taste buds.

How long does this take?
It takes several hours to prepare 3 - 5 entrees with accompanying side dishes. In addition there is packaging and clean up. This is a full day of work for me, beginning with the shopping.

Do I need to be home when the Personal Chef is at my house?
No. But the chef does need access to you house, at least to the kitchen.

How do I pay for this service?
Payment for each cheffing day is due 7 days prior to the date. If you are a regular client, you will probably choose to leave payment for me on each cheffing day to cover the next cheffing date.

What exactly does the price include?
The price includes our initial consultation, the planning and creation of menus, grocery shopping, preparing the meals, packaging, instructions for heating, and cleanup of the kitchen. If time is a valuable commodity in your life, this service will save you many hours.
